A Better “Virtual” Time

Are you bitter about all this pandemic shenanigans? Wish perhaps you were alive at a different time? “Better Times” is the latest virtual trend. It is a light-hearted program that allows you to live in various pinpointed periods of time, filtered of course, from whatever tragedy, racism, war, and pandemic that era was afflicted with. So you can enjoy only the parts you like about the past while avoiding the present completely.

The 1920s were sort of nice if you leave out the post First World War trauma, the fact most common people couldn’t own their land in most places in the world, and racism towards anyone that was a different shade or religion. But it had fab clothing, swing music and elaborate tea parties in the right parts of society. So no matter who you are, now you can enjoy that era without the threat of being you.

You can also head back to medieval times, enjoy a good feast among fellows without getting raped or hung for alleged witchcraft, which let's be honest, I would have been totally into at the time.

Or maybe something more recent like the 1950s with all the great cars, well-made flattering clothing, “healthy” Coca-Cola, cool diners, just minus all the murder and hate crimes against black people and the oppression of women.

Perhaps even with the pandemic, our era is not so bad a time to be alive. Yes, we are wearing masks, but we wear them together regardless of race, religion, social status or gender. We are one in this adversity like never before.
